Wisconsin Licensing Requirements

Wisconsin Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in Wisconsin?

You will need a BID card to bid on clean and salvage titled vehicles in Wisconsin. You can purchase boats, jet skis and snowmobiles without a BID card, however.

If you're buying in another state, view the Licensing Map or search our No License Required inventory.

In Wisconsin, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide CrashedToys an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms. A signed Buyer Identification Card, known simply as a BID Card, is also required for buying vehicles in Wisconsin.

Dealer and dismantler licenses issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are acceptable operational licenses. The Wisconsin Department of Revenue issues the Registration Certificate, including tax type "Sales & Use." Wholesalers may submit the Wisconsin Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certificate (Form S-211) in place of the sales tax license.

These links will provide the forms and information you need to get started with licensing and BID Cards:

Additionally, please complete the following forms and fax them back to CrashedToys' Licensing Department at (800) 787-8650. These documents will be processed within one to two business days of receipt.

Private individuals buying in Wisconsin will also need a BID Card for all clean titled and salvage items. Boats, jet skis and snowmobiles, however, do not require a BID Card for purchase.
