Utah Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in Utah? Without business licenses, private individuals buying in Utah may purchase clean titled items on their own but will need to go through a Broker for all salvage titled vehicles, as well as boats, jet skis and snowmobiles. In Utah, dealers, dismantlers, general business and exporters will need to provide CrashedToys an operational license and a sales tax license for the same physical address, as well as sales tax exemption forms. In addition, Utah requires a salvage buyer license for in-state buyers wanting to purchase more than five vehicles in a rolling 12-month period. This license is issued by the Utah State Tax Commission, Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.

The Utah State Tax Commission also issues dealer, dismantler, business licenses and sales tax licenses (or Use Tax Certificate of Registration). You can get a general business license from your local city or county office.
