District of Columbia Licensing Requirements

Note: Copart does not currently have a facility in the District of Columbia. We have provided DC-specific licensing information below but encourage you to check out Maryland's licensing requirements too.

What could be more frustrating than finding that “diamond in the rough” vehicle – and then realizing it requires licenses you don’t have? At Copart, we do our best to give you licensing information up front. So when it comes time to bid and buy, you’re ready to dominate the auction.

Every state has unique licensing requirements, depending on the type of buyer and the type of vehicle (clean titled or salvage). Therefore, it’s essential to read up on these stipulations before attempting to bid on anything found on Copart.com.

In the District of Columbia, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide Copart an operational license issued by the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms. The DC Office of Tax and Revenue issues the Sales & Use Tax Certificate of Registration.
