West Virginia Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in West Virginia? Without business licenses, you will need a Broker's help to bid on clean and salvage titled vehicles in West Virginia. If you're buying in another state, view the State Licensing Overview or search our No License Required inventory.

In West Virginia, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide Copart an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms. The Business Registration Certificate (sales tax license) is issued by the West Virginia State Tax Department.

Dealer licenses – type DUC Dealer and type D Dealer – are issued by the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, along with the dismantler license type WDR (Wrecker/Dismantler/Rebuilder). Business licenses can be acquired from your local city or county office.
